Urban Planning Sector
Urban planning, including sanitation, lighting, water, and transport, offers opportunities for gender-responsive public services. These services can help mitigate and reduce the risk of violence against women and girls (VAWG). For example, safe city initiatives promote women’s and girls’ rights and access to public spaces free from sexual harassment and other forms of VAWG. Likewise, women’s active participation in urban development is critical for gender-inclusive planning, such as considering women’s safety audit assessments.
