Education Sector
School-related gender-based violence (SRGBV) includes different forms of physical, sexual and/or psychological violence that occur in and around schools. These forms include verbal abuse, bullying and peer violence, sexual harassment, coercion, and assault. Collaborating with the education sector is important to prevent SRGBV, including through a ‘whole of school’ approach.
Schools also offer meaningful opportunities to raise awareness of gender equality, address harmful social norms and prevent future risk factors for violence. These opportunities include teaching self-regulation, empathy, conflict resolution skills, and healthy relationships.
