How have couples with young children in Rwanda experienced the COVID-19 pandemic and its response? Speakers from Promundo and the Rwanda Men’s Resource Centre share findings from a recent study showing that families who participated in the Bandebereho fathers and couples intervention in 2015 generally fared better during the pandemic than those who hadn’t participated. Their study builds on an earlier randomized controlled trial, which showed reduction in violence against women and violence against children, and reveals the lasting impact of the intervention on key outcomes related to care work, couple relations, and risk factors for violence in the family. The speakers also discuss the ongoing scale-up of the Bandebereho programme through Rwanda’s national community health workers system.
