Elements of Effective Programmes

What makes violence prevention programmes effective? As our field grows and generates new evidence, we can draw important lessons across programmes to inform our efforts. Effective programmes are intentional in their design, involve multiple components, and are intensive—they engage people multiple times with messages and methods that reinforce each other. Effective programmes also typically build on content that aims to transform ideas about gender, envisions a future without violence, builds skills, and sparks experiential learning through interactive exercises and techniques. Including these elements in your programme can contribute to your strategy’s success.

On this page, we highlight practice-based knowledge and evidence on what makes prevention programmes effective.
