Suhail works as an independent consultant on gender, gender-based violence prevention, strategic development, and community engagement within development and humanitarian aid contexts. He has experience in Jordan, Palestine, Greece, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Canada, the United States, and Kenya. He has worked on projects engaging refugees and service providers on exploring and addressing sexual and gender-based violence, with particular attention to men and boys as both survivors/victims and agents of change and prevention. Suhail has also worked on building strategies and work plans within organisational and programmatic environments. Current highlighted projects include working with the International Labour Organization on labour rights in Jordan, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) on developing strategies for HIV/AIDS service provision in the Middle East and North Africa, and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on promoting women’s participation in local politics in the Middle East. Suhail is currently based in Jordan.

Lizzie is a gender and communications for development practitioner working to prevent violence against women and children. She is experienced in using community-based approaches for fostering change and promoting healthy, non-violent relationships. Lizzie currently supports activists and civil society organisations to implement SASA! Together in Timor-Leste. She works with networks and grassroots activist groups to strengthen prevention practices and promote self-care and collective well-being. She also has experience leading an accredited course in social services with a focus on both response and prevention of violence against women and other vulnerable groups. She is currently the social norms change advisor in the Timor-Leste office of The Asia Foundation.

Ariel has more than 25 years’ experience working on reproductive and sexual health, with a focus on gender-based violence. She holds a doctorate in public health from Johns Hopkins University and has worked in the Kyrgyz Republic, India, Pakistan, Albania, Kosovo, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and the United States. Her work focuses on preventive health and improving access to health services for vulnerable groups. She has worked for a variety of donors and international and local NGOs to design, implement, and evaluate health programmes. Ariel has worked to integrate violence prevention measures into health programming models in the areas of HIV/AIDS, family planning, safe motherhood/child survival, and refugee health. Ariel is currently based in the Kyrgyz Republic. In her free time, she enjoys reading contemporary fiction, travelling to new places, and learning languages.

Clara is a gender specialist with over 17 years of experience in designing, adapting, implementing, and evaluating social development programmes to advance gender equality. Her work has focused on the integration of gender and violence prevention in the areas of early childhood development, parenting and caregiver support, sexual and reproductive health, and social protection. As a mentor of the Prevention Collaborative, she has led a learning partnership with an organisation in three East African countries to integrate a gender and violence prevention lens into their parenting programme. She is particularly interested in approaches to transform gender norms; the intersection of violence against women and violence against children, as well as promoting healthy masculinities and engaging men and boys to prevent violence. She has worked with international development organisations, NGOs, research organisations, and governments, primarily in Latin America and Africa but also in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Clara is currently the director of programmes at Promundo-US and is based in the United States. She is passionate about dancing and hiking and is yearning to reconnect in person with friends all over the globe when the pandemic ends.

Masturah is a social development professional with over 10 years of experience advancing programmes that seek to address gender and power inequities. She has worked with Save the Children International Nigeria on the USAID MOMENTUM-GBV Project, Girl Effect Nigeria, Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative and for the World Bank’s Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project across States, and UNICEF. Her work focuses on gender equitable behaviours, SRHR, Family Planning, disability inclusion, child, early & forced marriage, and IPV. Her expertise also lies in strengthening organisational capacities to develop/adapt and implement evidence-based strategies, global and national policies, and conducting formative assessments/norms exploration. Masturah is currently the Technical Lead with SCIDaR, working on the Community Re-orientation Women’s Network (CROWN) initiative. Masturah holds a BSc in Biochemistry, a Master’s in Health Economics, an MBA in Project Management, and an Advanced Research Certificate from the Market Research Society (MRS). Based in Abuja, Nigeria, Masturah loves reading, binge-watching movies and travelling.

Tamara is an experienced development consultant with over 30 years in the field in different capacities, ranging from supporting locally based organisations and social movements to working with senior government and political offices, development agencies, and philanthropies on complex gender-based violence programming and policy initiatives. Her areas of technical support have included gender-based violence programme design; monitoring, evaluation, and learning; policy analysis and research; organisational coaching; strategy development and facilitation; and diversity management. She has worked with clients across Africa, Europe, North America, Asia, and the Global South more broadly. Her current work has included providing high-level technical support at the very senior government levels, providing strategy support for global coalitions in the field of sexual rights and intersectional feminism, and providing support for anti-racist interventions as a form of structural violence. Her approach to work is embedded within a deep commitment to social justice issues and a profound love and sensitivity for humanity—particularly those historically marginalised by unequal power relations—coupled with an unwavering focus on delivering technically sound, client-focused, high-quality work.

Katy is a gender and development practitioner with a master of science degree in violence, conflict, and development from SOAS University of London. She uses rights-based and participatory approaches and has provided technical support for girls’ rights and violence against women and girls prevention programming in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. Katy is an accredited SASA! technical advisor and has provided training and technical accompaniment for the approach. She has supported groups to adapt SASA! to suit their context; written on preventing violence against women and girls for publications such as Reproductive Health Matters; contributed to writing about ethical scale-up of gender-transformative programming; and supported diverse groups to integrate violence prevention programming into their initiatives and to apply for funding. Katy has also provided technical accompaniment for girls’ rights programming, including girl-centred design, girls’ clubs and safe spaces, and responses to harmful practices such as female genital mutilation/cutting. She is based in the United Kingdom, working with ActionAid as a senior technical advisor. Katy is an intersectional feminist and a yoga and singing enthusiast. She believes in self and collective care and finding ways we can all contribute to dismantling the patriarchy.

Julienne is an independent consultant specialising in gender; the prevention of violence against women and children; and women, peace, and security. She obtained her PhD in anthropology from the University of Melbourne and has more than 18 years’ experience supporting and leading research, evaluation, and capacity-building projects in a range of development, humanitarian, and conflict settings, including in South Asia, Southeast Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, and Latin America. Julienne worked as a technical advisor for the What Works to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls Programme (funded by the UK Department for International Development), supporting NGOs in programme implementation and research in Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Nepal. More recently, she has been leading and supporting research, evaluation, and capacity building in violence against women prevention programming in Malawi, Syria, Timor-Leste, and Zimbabwe. She has worked with programmes on engaging men and boys, working with religious and faith-based actors, women’s economic empowerment, and community social norms change. Julienne is currently based in Spain. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, dancing, travelling, and spending time with her two beloved dogs she adopted in Afghanistan.

Daniel is a psychologist and has a master of public health degree. He has worked internationally on the issues of gender, masculinities, gender-based violence prevention, and fatherhood and care since 2000. During this time, his focus has been the prevention of violence against women, in particular, intimate partner violence and interventions with male perpetrators. Over the course of his career, Daniel has worked with or been a consultant for NGOs such as Instituto Papai, Instituto Promundo, and EngenderHealth; for different governmental agencies, such as the Brazilian Ministry of Health; and for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). Daniel is currently based in Brazil. He is the father of Francisco and of the twins Luís and Caetano and uses that experience to run the Instagram account ‘Paternidades Equitativas’ (‘Equitable Fatherhood’).

Devin is a gender-responsive research and programming specialist supporting activist groups to use practice-based learning to inform effective violence prevention interventions. He has led organisational capacity strengthening, programme management, and formal and informal learning initiatives across several sectors in Africa and Asia. He regularly shifts between the violence against women and violence against children prevention spaces, and he works extensively with Raising Voices in Uganda and various United Nations agencies and global working groups to strengthen community mobilisation programmes to end violence against women and girls. He utilises a rights-based, feminist approach in his work and has a particular passion for facilitating safe spaces where local activists can critically interrogate and learn from their programming. Devin splits his time between Uganda and Thailand. He is a writer, meditator, and nature lover who believes that change and lasting peace in this world start with change and peace within.

Diane is an applied feminist anthropologist with a focus on preventing and responding to violence against women and girls, as well as other forms of gender-based violence. Her skills include the use of participatory processes to design and implement ethnographic research and evaluation, strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, and training, and she enjoys mentoring others to learn and innovate with these skills. Diane has worked with NGOs, as well as bilateral and multilateral agencies, across Africa, as well as in Europe, East Asia, and parts of the Middle East. She has lived in Uganda, Kenya, Swaziland/eSwatini, and Jamaica. After years of consulting, from 2020 to 2022, Diane is working for Making Cents International, leading Collective Action to Reduce Gender-Based Violence (CARE-GBV), a two-year global initiative to strengthen the gender-based violence portfolio across the US Agency for International Development. Diane enjoys walking, the sun, cooking and entertaining, and time with her three delightful grandsons.

Sharanya’s work has focused on girls’ education, designing and implementing adolescent-specific life skills, emotional health, and community peer leadership programmes. She has worked with grassroots organisations and projects across India and contributed through programme and curriculum design, formative research, capacity building and training, process and programme documentation, and communications. Currently, she is working with CorStone, a nonprofit that runs adolescent girl-focused personal resilience programmes in government schools in Bihar, India. Sharanya is a Chevening Scholar (2016–17) and has postgraduate degrees in social policy and planning (London School of Economics, 2017), and media and cultural studies (Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, 2010). When not working, Sharanya likes to read poetry and dwell on the metaphors therein. She currently lives in New Delhi, India.

Constanza is a microbiologist, medical doctor, and public health specialist with more than 15 years of experience in the fields of women’s health, sexual and reproductive health, violence against women, and violence against children. She has worked as a physician and as a public health practitioner with civil society organisations, international organisations, and government programmes in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean. Recently, Constanza has provided strategic technical support to governments across Latin America and the Caribbean. She has worked with the Pan-American Health Organization. Constanza has contributed to the development of regional and global guidance for the health sector response to violence against women and children and for this guidance’s adaptation, uptake, and operationalisation at the national level. Constanza loves reading, dancing, spending time with family and friends, and playing with her young daughter and her dog.

Annie is a Zimbabwean writer, filmmaker, and communications strategist, now working mainly from Portugal and the United Kingdom. She led research uptake for STRIVE, an eight-year consortium on the structural drivers of HIV, at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, providing strategy, mentorship, and multimedia knowledge products. Previously, she headed knowledge and communications for JASS, an international feminist movement-building network; produced 30-plus documentaries and television series; and co-led the editorial department of a new publishing house after Zimbabwe’s independence. Bridging all of her past and current work in film, text, and virtual learning is a passion for stories.

Julaikha is a gender and development specialist and evaluation expert with over 20 years of experience in gender equality, GBV prevention and response, social and gender norms, social protection, women’s empowerment, migration, and humanitarian and disaster-risk contexts. She has led and contributed to national and regional evaluations, gender analyses, service quality assessments, safety audits, GBV service audits, and norms-focused research for UN Women, UNFPA, ILO, UNICEF, and other international partners across the Asia Pacific region and the Horn of Africa. Julaikha is an affiliated faculty member and a senior research specialist at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and is currently based in Bangkok, Thailand. She is passionate about translating evidence into policy action and mentoring emerging researchers and practitioners.

Ntokozo is a feminist and gender and women’s rights activist. She is an expert in gender, HIV/AIDS, violence against women and girls, and sexual and reproductive health based in Durban, South Africa. Ntokozo has over 15 years of experience in community mobilisation and advocacy, and she has participated in several campaigns for the advancement of women’s rights. She is passionate about working on violence against women prevention and community mobilisation; training, facilitating, implementing, and monitoring for programmes; and working towards reviving a global women’s movement. She is currently a Rise Up Gender Equity Initiative Leader in South Africa and is implementing Women and Girls Footprints, an advocacy project in communities in and around the eThekwini Municipality advancing women and girls’ advocacy and economic independence. Ntokozo also implements the Stepping Stones intervention in Southern Africa. Outside work, she is free-spirited, always eager to learn and share experiences. She loves swimming and being surrounded by positive individuals, and in return, infusing positive energies wherever she is.

Alice is a gender equality and violence against women and girls prevention specialist with 17 years’ experience working to advance women and girls’ rights. She has extensive experience working on UK government-funded programmes, including six years on the What Works to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls Programme and currently on the Tithestse Nkhanza programme in Malawi. She has also worked with UN Women, the Danish International Development Agency, and NGOs such as the Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation, VSO Nepal, ActionAid, Ujamaa Africa and SAYWHAT Zimbabwe. Alice has provided long-term, one-to-one support, as well as team mentoring and training, across a range of contexts, including on intervention design and monitoring and on the foundations of violence against women and girls prevention. She is happiest when collaborating with inspiring feminist colleagues and trying out innovative learning approaches. Alice lives in Denmark with her three daughters, husband, and two cats; prefers to be outside rather than behind a desk; and is an enthusiastic newbie gardener.

Anjalee is an implementation science researcher with 20 years of experience in prevention of gender-based violence, violence against children, and HIV/AIDS programming. She applies a learning approach to her work, using mixed methods and participatory research approaches to collaborate with organisations to design, improve, evaluate, adapt, and scale projects. Her work includes a focus on transforming social and gender norms, including generating evidence, leading knowledge-building consultations, developing guidance documents, and providing technical assistance. She is passionate about developing strong, collaborative, and values-based partnerships, centring vulnerable groups and working at the intersection of context, complexity, and justice. Anjalee currently works with Georgetown University. Previously, she worked with Johns Hopkins University in the Democratic Republic of Congo and with FHI 360 in India. She is a member of the Community for Understanding Scale Up (CUSP). Anjalee received her PhD from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and holds a master of public health degree.

Pan is an experienced programmer and trainer in addressing gender-based violence, especially violence against women and girls, with more than five years of experience in both humanitarian and development settings. In work with both Trócaire and the United Nations Population Fund, she has focused on developing close partnerships with NGOs and civil society organisations; providing capacity development in both prevention and response; and supporting organisations across Myanmar to design successful programmes to prevent violence against women and girls. Pan has experience with the SASA! approach to preventing violence against women and HIV, especially adaptation for the local context and implementation. Most of her experience is in community mobilisation, training, facilitation, implementation, and monitoring, and her approach is localisation, ownership, and sustainability, ensuring projects are appropriate to the local context and able to deliver basic services to meet the needs of women and girls who have experienced violence. She is a young and dynamic trainer and brings imaginative thought, expertise in partnership, and strong communication skills. Pan cherishes baking, working out, singing, and dancing, and is based in Myanmar.

Celine is an independent consultant with more than 20 years of professional experience in social development, gender, and sexual and reproductive health and rights with various NGOs and the United Nations, mainly in East, Southern, and West Africa. She enjoys working at the crossroads of research and practice, and she has developed skills to understand the needs of those she works for; collect and synthesise data and evidence; and adapt them so that they are useful to policy, programme, and strategy development. For the past 10 years, she has focused on violence against women and girls prevention interventions, contributing to the design of programmes, research, and evidence synthesis, as well as capacity building and mentoring. She is currently the violence against women and girls advisor for Stopping Abuse and Female Exploitation (SAFE) Zimbabwe, a programme funded by the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office. She is a native French speaker and has been based in South Africa for more than 15 years. She never misses her yoga class and enjoys biking, hiking, and photography.

Lyndsay has over 25 years of professional experience in research, programme design and evaluation, technical assistance, training and facilitation, and policy advice in international development, including in fragile and conflict-affected contexts in Africa and Asia. For the last 15 years, she has focused on gender equality, gender-based violence, women’s and girls’ empowerment, and social inclusion. Lyndsay set up and managed the Violence Against Women and Girls Helpdesk (funded by the UK Department for International Development) and supported the What Works to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls Programme. She has worked with a number of donors, United Nations agencies, NGOs and women’s rights organisations. She is passionate about using participatory approaches and coaching to support others to work for personal and collective well-being and social justice. Lyndsay is currently based in Brighton, United Kingdom, and spends her spare time reading, writing, running, sea swimming, and doing yoga.

Giuliana is a specialist in research uptake with 11 years of experience engaging with researchers and practitioners to translate, disseminate, and use evidence and learning to inform HIV and violence prevention and response programmes. Across the knowledge into action life cycle, she has conducted multi-country qualitative research; developed knowledge products and programmatic guides and training; and used evidence and learning to design and implement violence prevention and response programmes with LGBTQ communities, people who inject drugs, sex workers, and young people. Giuliana has a deep commitment to applying intersectional feminist principles to decolonise knowledge and accelerate the knowledge into action life cycle. Originally from Peru, Giuliana is now based in North Carolina, United States. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, listening to podcasts, and raising chickens.

Chewe is a public health and development specialist with over a decade of experience in senior programmatic and research roles across Zambia, Malawi, Nigeria and South Africa. His work spans a wide range of public health areas, including violence prevention, SRHR, mental health, gender, digital health, and HIV, with a particular focus on improving outcomes for adolescent girls and women. He has worked with MIET Africa, Marie Stopes, D-tree International, PsycHealth Zambia, Equimundo and Restless Development, and has also served as a consultant with UNICEF in Zambia, contributing to impactful health and development initiatives across the region. Chewe is a Chevening Scholar, a Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Fellow at the Africa CDC, and Chairperson of the Board of Directors at StrongMinds Zambia. He holds a Master of Science in Management and International Business from Leeds Business School. A former rugby player, Chewe enjoys reading, going to the gym, and playing tennis in his free time.

Sophie is an applied researcher and feminist activist working to prevent violence against women and girls. She has over 12 years of experience supporting large and small organisations across diverse partnerships and regions of the world (East and Southern Africa, India, Eastern Europe, and Latin America). From 2014 to 2018, Sophie was the learning coordinator at Raising Voices in Uganda, where she helped develop an organisational research and learning strategy, co-led a study on adapting SASA! for different contexts, and explored the intersections between violence against women and violence against children. Prior to Raising Voices, she worked as an evaluation specialist with the International Center for Research on Women on programmes to address violence (including early marriage) and change gender norms. Sophie is based in Spain, working as an independent consultant and a technical advisor for Raising Voices. She is also a member of COFEM’s Coordinating Committee and the founder/co-director of Healing and Resilience after Trauma (HaRT), an organisation that promotes body-based approaches to collective healing for women and girls who have experienced human trafficking and other forms of violence. Sophie loves to spend her rainy days by the fire and sunny days in the ocean looking for waves.

Robyn is a global specialist in preventing violence against women and girls, with more than 17 years of experience in humanitarian and global contexts. She currently works as the Director for Gender and Gender-Based Violence for HIAS, and has worked previously with Raising Voices, the International Rescue Committee, the United Nations Children’s Fund, and a range of organisations supporting the design of effective programmes to prevent violence against women and girls. Robyn is an accredited Technical Advisor for the SASA! approach to preventing violence against women and HIV, the lead author of the Indashyikirwa Couples’ Curriculum, and contributor on a number of promising resources for preventing violence against women and girls. She brings creativity, authenticity, and joy to her work and is committed to upholding feminist values in all areas of her life.
