VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN/VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN (VAW/VAC)
The home is one of the most important potential spaces for women and children to experience joy, connection, and safety. However, every year, approximately three-quarters of the world’s children experience some form of violence. Much of this violence occurs in the home: corporal punishment at the hands of parents or caregivers is the most common form. Addressing violence in the home is the conviction of our work at the intersection of VAW and VAC.
Prevention programmes
Rapid advances in digital delivery and artificial intelligence are creating new, largely unexplored opportunities to address some of the most persistent challenges in the violence prevention field—delivering prevention at scale, reaching men and urban audiences, and strengthening efforts to transform social norms. Our Tech4Prevention stream of work exists to help marshal the potential of new technology solutions to improve prevention practice.
Faith leaders and institutions hold deep moral authority and trusted relationships that shape how communities understand gender, family life, and violence. Faith4Prevention is our commitment to intentionally engage that influence in shaping the norms and beliefs that challenge abuse.
Strategic investment
Policies for Prevention is a joint initiative between the Prevention Collaborative and the Africa Gender Innovation Lab at the World Bank. The initiative is designed to identify strategies that governments can pursue to reduce levels of intimate partner violence and sexual assault using the primary tools of government: policy and legal reform.
