Social Norms Change at Scale: Insights from GREAT

This case study by the Community for Understanding Scale Up (CUSP) documents a social norm change intervention by the Gender Roles, Equality, and Transformation (GREAT) project that aimed to reduce gender-based violence (GBV) and improve sexual and reproductive health (SRH) among adolescents (ages 10 to 19) and their communities in northern Uganda.

This document explains four key components of the GREAT project to promote gender-equitable attitudes and behaviours among adolescents to reduce GBV and improve SRH. They include bringing in communities together to take action; a serial radio drama with stories and songs to build awareness; training to help village health teams offer youth-friendly services; and a toolkit with lively stories and games, a flip book, activity cards, and discussion guides to create awareness and communicate key messages.
